The Beekman Library strives to be relevant to all residents and to contribute to the sense of community in the town of Beekman. The mission of the Beekman Library is to provide town residents the library materials and services that meet their needs for lifelong learning, literacy, enrichment, and pleasure. It shall also be the goal of the library to work with the residents to fulfill their future needs regarding library services.

Community Commons
Goal: The Beekman Library will be a place for residents to gather for information, entertainment, education, and a sense of community.
Action Plan:
1. Provide adequate space for large and small meetings, quiet study areas, as well as community space for socialization and discourse.
2. Present programs that meet user needs for socialization with their neighbors.
3. Expand hours to meet community needs for services and programs.

Current Topics & Titles
Goal: The residents of the town of Beekman will have available current and popular materials that stimulate curiosity, expand perceptions and reflect contemporary society. Titles will be available in sufficient quantities to meet demand and in sufficient formats to address an increasingly technology-based marketplace.
Action Plan:
1. Increase materials budget to insure an optimal mix of literary and bestselling books, music, and movies that includes a browsing copy.
2. Maintain existing holds-per-title ratio as per MHLS resource sharing standards.
3. Maintain three-day turnaround on new materials.
4. Weed collections continually as per CREW method.
5. Plan programs that meet the needs of the community as determined through circulation statistics and user surveys.

Lifelong Learning
Goal: Beekman residents will have access to materials and programs which promote independent personal learning throughout their lives.
Action Plan:
1. Increase circulation of adult non-fiction materials annually.
2. Increase attendance at adult programs annually.
3. Use various marketing vehicles to insure reach to all residents’ even non-users.
Goal: Beekman youth will have access to materials and programs that spark their desire to experience new possibilities and that create a love of lifelong learning.
Action Plan:
1. Increase number of children reached through outreach programs to daycares, and pre-schools annually.
2. Continue to expand reach of programs to school-age children by partnering with local schools.

Basic Literacy
Goal: The materials, programs and services offered by the Beekman Library will promote early literacy to insure reading readiness for our youngest patrons.
Action Plan:
1.Maintain quality of early literacy programs while expanded the number of programs as needed. Strive to keep wait list on programs to five.
Goal: Adult literacy including information literacy will be fostered through community partnerships and programs.
Action Plan:
1.Partner with community organizations to insure reach of programs to underserved populations
2.Use various marketing vehicles to insure reach to all residents even non-users.
3. Ensure that all new hires and existing staff possess the skills to assist patrons with their information needs by using all available formats.
